Why This Site Exists
Illinois keeps most jail and inmate information open to the public. The hard part is not whether the record exists. It is knowing which office holds it. The county sheriff runs the local jail list for people held before trial and serving short terms. The state corrections department runs a separate locator for sentenced prisoners. Federal and immigration detainees turn up in still other systems. We built this site to put those pieces in one place, with the rosters, locators, office contacts, visitation details, and request steps spelled out for Lee County so a search does not stall at the first dead end.
